VISIT TO VERWOOD FROM CHAMPTOCEAUX
13 – 16th MAY 2010

 

In 2010 Verwood Celebrates 25 years of twinning
with Champtoceaux in France.

Our friends from Champtoceaux are visiting us from Thursday 13th May to Sunday 16th . 
They plan to bring over 70 people this year.

PROGRAMME 13 - 16th MAY 2010

 

Thursday 13th

15:00 approx. Arrival in Verwood at The Hub.

Host families meet and collect their guests.

Welcome Dorset cream tea for all co-hosted with the Mayor.

Short ceremony to unveil a plaque on our 2007 gift magnolia tree. 

Friday 14th

Outing for both guests and hosts.

09:00 : Coaches leave the Hub Car Park for a visit to Lacock Village , Abbey and the Fox-Talbot museum. Arrive approx 10:45.

Lacock village is a 13th century village which remains largely unchanged across the centuries. Lacock Abbey is a former convent which was changed into a magnificent country house. 

It was one of the locations used in the Harry Potter films and in numerous television costume dramas. The Fox Talbot museum celebrates the life of the owner and resident of Lacock Abbey in the 1830s, photography pioneer Henry Fox-Talbot.

Lunch at 14:00 in (one of) two pubs in the village. Traditional English Ploughmans with tea or coffee provided. Cash bar.

Coach departs 15:30 . Return via A342, A360 for a view of Stonehenge ( 16:30 approx) then home via Salisbury .

17:30 approx Coach arrives back in Verwood.

Saturday 15th

Day spent with host families.

The boules pitch (and sets of boules) will be available for any friendly challenges.

18:00 for 18:30 : hosts take their guests to the soirée at The Hub.

Twinning display in the Bistro.

Traditional English aperitif: Pimms

Meal, speeches, entertainment.

Dancing to “Smack” 60s & 70s music.

Cash bar available.

Sunday 16th

Morning spent with host families.

Coach leaves The Hub for return journey to Champtoceaux 12:00.
